NEA Jazz Master Charles Lloyd returns to Da Camera’s jazz series. In this unique formation of the Marvels, Lloyd pairs bassist Reuben Rogers and Houston native drummer Kendrick Scott, with the great guitarists Bill Frisell. The mood is celebratory, with Lloyd displaying his knack for threading complex, dynamic musical ideas into the most elemental and open-hearted of riffs and melodies. On their Blue Note recording I Long To See You, the group explores such rich canonical texts of the great American songbook from Shenandoah and Abide With Me, to Bob Dylan’s Masters of War, to Lloyd classics like Sombrero Sam, Island Blues and Of Course, Of Course.
