Helms Community Learning Center strives to provide its students with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to succeed in today's multi-cultural society through its dual language, technology, staff development, parental outreach, and after school programs. This has been made possible through the collaboration of the Annenberg Foundation, University of St. Thomas, Shell Oil Company, and the Houston Independent School District. The school remains focused on it's goals to increase biliteracy and student learning through sustained school-wide reform efforts, application of teaching practices, vertical and horizontal alignment, and purposeful community partnerships. A good education is vital to the quality of life for all children, and is basic to the future strength of our country. Our young people are our greatest resource, and efforts on their behalf ensure that we are better prepared to meet the challenges ahead. The festival information is located on the PTA page. All of the proceeds go to the teachers in order to help them with supplies for the year. 90% of the children are economically disadvantaged and this festival helps to cover the costs of supplies in which to teach them.
